Kolkata, Oct 7 (NationPress) The West Bengal BJP has called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry into the assault on party MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh.

State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya expressed concerns about the lack of arrests made within 24 hours of the incident.

In addition, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari warned that he would approach the Calcutta High Court if no arrests were made by the end of Tuesday.

Addressing the media in Kolkata, Bhattacharya stated, "We are demanding an NIA inquiry into this incident. This pattern of violence cannot continue. Anyone who believes they can intimidate the BJP by attacking an MP is mistaken."

Criticizing the state administration for its failure to apprehend the assailants even a day after the incident, Bhattacharya asserted, "Those responsible for the attack, even if they are hiding, will be brought to justice by our government (Centre) through legal avenues."

Meanwhile, LoP Adhikari, currently in northern Bengal overseeing rescue efforts following devastating landslides that claimed at least 36 lives, condemned the Mamata Banerjee government for its inaction against the perpetrators.

In a statement to reporters, Adhikari said, "If no arrests are made by this evening (Tuesday), we will approach the vacation bench of the Calcutta High Court tomorrow. Our leaders were attacked while providing relief, and the assailants are clearly visible in the video footage shared. Yet, no one has been identified or apprehended. We will seek legal action if there are no arrests today."

Sending a strong message to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Adhikari remarked, "This is not a time for politics. We must unite and assist each other if necessary. No one is flaunting party flags while aiding the public. Why were Khagen Murmu and Shankar Ghosh attacked? This is deeply regrettable."

Earlier on Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has requested an urgent report from the West Bengal government regarding the violent attack on MP Khagen Murmu.

On Monday, BJP Maldaha Uttar MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were viciously assaulted by miscreants while en route to provide aid to landslide victims in North Bengal.

While Ghosh suffered minor injuries, the two-time BJP MP Khagen Murmu sustained significant facial and head injuries. The attack transpired in Nagrakata, located in the Jalpaiguri district of northern Bengal.

Khagen Murmu was promptly taken to a primary health center for medical treatment. He is currently receiving care at a hospital in Siliguri, and his condition is stable.

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has visited the injured MP at the hospital.

The BJP filed a complaint against eight individuals at the Nagrakata Police Station on Monday evening and staged a protest demanding action against the assailants.

However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this incident.
