Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP and ECI of Judicial Harassment Conspiracy in Malda
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 2 (NationPress) West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted on Thursday that the mistreatment of seven judicial officers in Kaliachak, Malda district, is a result of a collaborative conspiracy between the BJP and the Election Commission of India. She claims this is a tactic to facilitate the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. “It is the responsibility of the ECI to protect judicial officers. With the model code of conduct active, I lack control over the administration. Nonetheless, I urge everyone not to fall for provocations. I acknowledge the genuine concerns of those whose names were removed from the judicial process. But if you trust me, stay calm. We must safeguard West Bengal. Do not forget that the BJP orchestrates the Malda episode with the Commission's help. Their objective is to disrupt the electoral process and establish President’s Rule in West Bengal,” she stated during an election rally in Sagardighi, located near Malda in Murshidabad district on Thursday afternoon.
Without directly naming them, the Chief Minister hinted at the potential involvement of the Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party (AAUP), founded by former Trinamool Congress legislator Humayun Kabir, and Asaduddin Owaisi's party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the Malda situation.
AIMIM and AAUP are contesting together in several Assembly constituencies this time, particularly those with significant minority populations. “On one hand, someone came from Hyderabad. On the other hand, a traitor appeared on the scene, funded by the BJP. They incited you to block roads and surround the judges. What resulted from this?” questioned the Chief Minister.
Interestingly, Owaisi's base is in Hyderabad, while Kabir has been labeled a traitor after establishing his own party, AAUP, following his suspension from the Trinamool Congress.
“If you wish to prevent the BJP from seizing control in West Bengal, please maintain peace. The Malda incident has damaged West Bengal's reputation. The new Chief Secretary appointed by the ECI to replace the previous one has struggled to manage the situation. I implore you not to take the law into your own hands,” concluded the Chief Minister.
