Will BJP's Mockery of Tejashwi Yadav's Last-Minute Promises Affect Bihar Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Nov 4 (NationPress) As Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav presented a new array of promises on the final day of phase one campaigning, the BJP ridiculed him and the Mahagathbandhan, asserting that the alliance is "doomed to fail."
In a sharp response to the pledges, BJP MP Ravi Kishan accused the Mahagathbandhan of making unrealistic declarations out of sheer desperation.
“With the Mahagathbandhan's impending defeat becoming increasingly evident, they are resorting to daily announcements of new schemes,” he stated, deriding the RJD’s electoral incentives.
BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain remarked, “Tejashwi Yadav is fully aware that the Mahagathbandhan is headed for a significant loss in this election. Currently, RJD and Congress workers are clashing over multiple constituencies...”
Earlier in the day, Tejashwi Yadav proclaimed that his party aims to foster a “flourishing Bihar” by empowering both farmers and women through specific welfare initiatives.
“Our ambition is to cultivate a prosperous Bihar. Today, we announced several measures for farmers... The electricity utilized by farmers for irrigation will be provided free of charge. All the PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies) engaged in irrigation will also gain the status of energy suppliers,” Tejashwi elaborated.
The RJD leader further pledged a special procurement incentive for farmers.
“For procurement, farmers will receive ₹300 more than the MSP for paddy and ₹400 more than the MSP for wheat,” he disclosed.
Among his most significant electoral promises was a direct cash transfer of ₹30,000 to women under the 'Mai Bahin Maan Yojana.'
“On Makar Sankranti, right after Kharwas — on January 14 — under the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, ₹30,000 will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of mothers and sisters,” Tejashwi stated.
This announcement is perceived as a crucial strategy by the RJD-led coalition to attract women and rural voters, who are vital demographics in Bihar’s electoral arena.
The BJP has consistently dismissed the RJD’s welfare pledges as “election gimmicks,” while the opposition coalition asserts that its agenda prioritizes social justice, women’s empowerment, and economic rejuvenation in Bihar.
