Patna, Oct 23 (NationPress) As the Mahagathbandhan gears up for a significant press briefing on Thursday, there is growing speculation that the prolonged anticipation for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav to be named the alliance's Chief Ministerial candidate might soon be resolved.
This development follows a meeting involving Tejashwi Yadav, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, and the party's Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, who convened with Tejashwi and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in Patna on Wednesday.
The setting for Thursday's press conference at Patna's Maurya Hotel adds further intrigue, as the backdrop prominently features the election symbols of all Mahagathbandhan partners, alongside a large image of Tejashwi Yadav.
The banner also includes the hashtag 'Bihar maange Tejashwi sarkar' (Bihar demands Tejashwi government).
This will mark the first collaborative press conference of the Mahagathbandhan since the announcement of election dates.
The last time the alliance leaders shared the stage was during the unveiling of the 'Ati Pichhda EBC Sankalp Patra' in Patna on September 24, which was attended by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahani.
Previously, the leaders had collectively participated in Rahul Gandhi's two-week-long 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', which spanned over 25 districts in Bihar.
Although the Congress has not commented on the outcome of Wednesday's meeting, alliance partner CPI(ML)'s General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya hinted at rising impatience within the coalition regarding the delay in naming Tejashwi Yadav as the CM candidate.
'Tejashwi's name as the Opposition's CM candidate could be formally announced at the joint press conference on Thursday. Everyone in Bihar knows Tejashwi will be the CM if the Opposition bloc secures a majority,' Bhattacharya remarked.
However, Ashok Gehlot has adopted a cautious approach, merely stating that 'all confusion' will be clarified at Thursday's press conference.
To date, the Congress has been careful in naming Tejashwi Yadav as the unanimous candidate of the Opposition alliance.
The party has yet to reciprocate Tejashwi's public endorsement of Rahul Gandhi as the alliance's prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
