BJP Critiques Jharkhand CM's Rs 100-Crore Residence Plan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) The BJP has vehemently condemned the purported allocation of Rs 100 crore for the construction of an official residence for Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Party leaders have accused the state administration of squandering public resources and exhibiting misplaced priorities.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo launched a fierce critique of the Chief Minister, questioning the government’s focus on its priorities.
“Chief Minister Hemant Soren claims to be the son of tribal communities and asserts that this administration is dedicated to the welfare of the poor and the upliftment of tribals…” Shah Deo remarked to IANS.
He alleged that the project involves constructing an opulent residence while the government continues to project itself as a champion for tribal societies and economically disadvantaged groups.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal also weighed in on the matter, stating that while official residences are essential for public officials, there should be transparency regarding the standards and costs.
“It is indeed necessary to have an official residence or office for executing our daily responsibilities and duties. However, the specifications of such residences and the standards they should meet must be well-defined…” Khandelwal stated.
This controversy arises in light of BJP's claims that approximately Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a new official residence for the Chief Minister. According to party representatives, the proposed initiative entails demolishing a heritage structure at the current Chief Minister’s residence and replacing it with a new edifice.
BJP leaders have disparagingly labeled the proposed project as a 'Sheesh Mahal,' asserting that it exemplifies an unjustifiable and extravagant expenditure of public funds.
The issue has drawn parallels to previous allegations made by the BJP against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal regarding the renovation of his official residence in Delhi.
During a press conference on Friday, Shah Deo articulated that while the Jharkhand government positions itself as a representative of tribal communities and the impoverished, the sanctioning of a Rs 100-crore project for the Chief Minister’s residence is contradictory.
He further contended that the project illustrates misplaced priorities and questioned the necessity of such a substantial expenditure from the state budget.
The Jharkhand government has yet to provide a comprehensive response to the allegations. This issue is poised to escalate political discussions within the state, with the BJP accusing the ruling party of financial recklessness.
