Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) With the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a principal suspect in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, from the United States, prominent leaders from the BJP have celebrated this event as a pivotal moment for justice. They also seized this opportunity to criticize the former UPA government for its perceived inaction against terrorism.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal, while addressing the media at the renowned Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai—one of the key targets during the 2008 attacks—expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing the longstanding demand for justice.
"The location we are at was a target of terrorist activities during the Congress administration. Many innocent lives were lost here, yet the Congress government took no substantial action to ensure justice. The individual who was apprehended was even served biryani by Congress," said Goyal, referring to Ajmal Kasab, the only surviving attacker who was later executed.
"It was PM Modi's unwavering determination that those who threaten our nation receive the most severe punishment. Today, every Indian takes pride in the Prime Minister. All of us in Mumbai are especially thankful to him for ensuring that those responsible for violent attacks on our homeland are held accountable under our laws," he added.
Rana, a 64-year-old Canadian national with Pakistani roots and an associate of David Coleman Headley, is being extradited to India after an extended legal struggle in the US. He is anticipated to be incarcerated in Tihar Jail in Delhi under strict security and will be taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai echoed Goyal's statements, asserting that the current administration under Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah has taken decisive measures against anyone attempting to harm India.
"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah, firm actions have been implemented against individuals who have acted against our nation. All anti-national elements have faced appropriate repercussions," Rai stated.
"Terrorism has been nearly eradicated under the Prime Minister's leadership. Those who sought to destabilize India over the past fourteen years are now facing justice. No anti-national will go unpunished," he continued.
BJP national spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also criticized the Congress-led UPA government, accusing it of being lenient towards terrorism.
"Unlike during the UPA period, anyone who poses a threat to India and has committed crimes against our nation will be dealt with under Indian law," Naqvi asserted in a statement to IANS.
"This is not the Congress era. In contrast, actions are being taken against anyone who has committed crimes against our country under the most stringent legal provisions," he emphasized.
Rana is expected to be presented in a Delhi court shortly after his arrival. He faces several serious accusations, including criminal conspiracy, murder, waging war against the Government of India, and violations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Upon his arrival in India, Rana will be taken into custody by a collaborative team from the NIA and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), who have been coordinating his extradition. He is likely to be presented in a Delhi court soon after landing.
