Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC expressed that the extradition of Tahawwur Rana is a significant triumph for India and a long-awaited moment of justice for the victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, while insisting on the death penalty for the accused.

In an interview with IANS, Shaina stated, "As a resident of Mumbai, I perceive this as a major achievement for everyone who suffered a loss in the 26/11 attacks. The extradition of Tahawwur Rana is a result of Prime Minister Modi's relentless efforts and ongoing diplomatic engagement since 2019."

Rana, a 64-year-old Pakistani-born Canadian citizen and a close associate of David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, is being extradited to India to stand trial for his alleged involvement in the 26/11 attacks that resulted in 166 fatalities and left hundreds injured.

"We all wish for him to face the death penalty -- he should be hanged for the atrocious crimes of 26/11. Naturally, legal proceedings will follow their due course. However, for India, this is a historic moment. He is not only a primary conspirator of the 26/11 attacks, but this marks the first instance where an individual is being extradited from the United States to India for such a case," Shaina remarked.

She emphasized that the extradition conveys a strong message to terror operatives and the agents of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who have believed they are immune to Indian law.

"Now, they are within the reach of justice and must face the most severe penalties, as quickly as possible," she asserted.

"I am confident that a momentous decision will be made by the NDA government in this matter. I extend my gratitude to PM Modi, HM Amit Shah, and NSA Ajit Doval for making this happen," she added.

Officials reported that a special chartered flight carrying Rana departed from the US on April 9. Upon arrival, he will be taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is coordinating his extradition with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Rana, who is believed to have connections with the ISI and the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, faces charges under multiple sections of Indian law, including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Government of India, murder, forgery, and under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Upon landing, he is expected to be held in a high-security unit at Delhi's Tihar Jail and will be presented before a Delhi court shortly thereafter. However, the Mumbai Police have yet to receive formal communication regarding his transfer to the city.
