Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) Shiv Sena (UBT) chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut stated on Thursday that the key accused of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who has been extradited to India, should face execution without delay.
He asserted that the government would carry out the execution during the upcoming Bihar elections. “Rana must be hanged immediately, but it is anticipated that his execution will coincide with the Bihar polls (scheduled for later this year),” Raut remarked.
Raut emphasized that the 16-year-long struggle to bring Rana back to India began during the Congress administration.
“Therefore, no one should claim credit for Rana’s return,” he added.
Raut noted that Rana is not the first individual to be extradited to India, recalling the extradition of Abu Salem, a suspect in the 1993 serial blasts.
Raut's comments followed Rana's arrival at Delhi’s Palam airport at 2:50 PM on Thursday after being extradited from the US.
Rana was transported on a special flight accompanied by a team of Indian intelligence and investigative officials.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated that the extradition was the result of years of persistent efforts to bring the alleged key conspirator of the 2008 chaos to justice.
“With the support of the US Department of Justice, the US Sky Marshal, and close collaboration among Indian intelligence agencies, including the NSG, the NIA coordinated effectively with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs to achieve a successful outcome,” the statement highlighted.
Raut also called for the repatriation of Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was apprehended in 2016 and sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court for alleged espionage, a charge India has categorically rejected.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Ashok Chavan characterized the extradition of Tahawwur Rana as a significant achievement for India.
Chavan remarked that the painful memories of the 26/11 attacks remain vivid for Indians, particularly those in Mumbai. “This was a terrorist attack backed by Pakistan. The interrogation of Tahawwur Rana may uncover more details regarding the conspiracy behind the Mumbai attack and other terrorist operations. Thus, Rana’s extradition is a monumental victory for India, both diplomatically and legally,” he stated.
He added that the US Supreme Court had also provided a favorable ruling regarding Rana's extradition request, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for effectively managing the diplomatic and legal aspects of this case.
Chavan pointed out that India has previously succeeded in bringing back several gangsters, such as Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan, and Ravi Pujari to face justice.
