Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) Shiv Sena (UBT) chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut stated on Thursday that the government plans to execute Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key figure in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, who has been extradited to India, during the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

“Rana should face immediate execution, but the government will carry out the hanging during the Bihar polls (scheduled for later this year),” he asserted.

Raut highlighted the prolonged 16-year struggle to bring Rana back to India, which began under the Congress administration.

“No one should claim credit for his return,” he remarked.

Raut noted that Rana is not the first extradited individual, recalling that Abu Salem, accused in the 1993 serial blasts, was also extradited to India.

His comments followed Rana’s arrival at Delhi’s Palam airport at 2:50 pm on Thursday after being extradited from the US.

Rana, a 64-year-old Canadian citizen of Pakistani descent, was transported on a special flight accompanied by a team of Indian intelligence and investigative personnel.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced that the extradition was the result of years of dedicated efforts to bring this alleged key conspirator of the 2008 tragedy to justice.

“With the assistance of USDoJ, the US Sky Marshal, and collaboration with other Indian intelligence agencies, the NIA engaged in a comprehensive extradition process, supported by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs working with relevant US authorities to ensure a successful outcome,” the statement detailed.

Raut also urged for the return of Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was apprehended in 2016 and sentenced to death by a Pakistani military tribunal for alleged espionage, a claim India has condemned as fabricated.

In a related note, BJP MP Ashok Chavan hailed the extradition of Tahawwur Rana as a significant triumph for India.

Chavan remarked that the harrowing memories of the 26/11 attacks linger in the minds of Indians, particularly Mumbaikars. He stated, “It was a terrorist attack sponsored by Pakistan. The interrogation of Tahawwur Rana could provide deeper insights into the conspiracy behind the Mumbai attack and other terrorist endeavors. Hence, Rana's extradition is a notable victory for India, both diplomatically and legally.”

He further noted that the US Supreme Court rendered a favorable decision regarding Rana's extradition request, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi adeptly managed the diplomatic and legal aspects of this issue.

Chavan also highlighted India’s prior successes in repatriating various gangsters like Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan, and Ravi Pujari to the country.
