Nadia (West Bengal), April 8 (NationPress) - The President of the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samik Bhattacharya, characterized the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in the state as a defining battle between the public and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
During a BJP campaign event, Bhattacharya stated, "We do not rely on specific communities such as Harijan, Girijan, Adivasi, Matua, and Rajbanshi to conduct our politics. We have a comprehensive vision for all the citizens of West Bengal."
The BJP State President emphasized that the party's mission is to liberate the citizens from the dominance of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
"This election is fundamentally a contest between the public and Mamata Banerjee," he asserted.
In response to Mamata Banerjee's declaration that her party aims for Delhi, Bhattacharya remarked, "Mamata Banerjee will hold the position of Chief Minister of West Bengal for just a month or so. It is irrelevant to respond to every statement she makes."
He also addressed the controversy surrounding Rakesh Singh, who was announced as the BJP's candidate for the Kolkata Port Assembly constituency shortly after being granted bail by the Calcutta High Court.
Bhattacharya questioned, "Why was Rakesh Singh imprisoned initially? Why was his daughter detained for three days? The local populace is aware if he was jailed for a legitimate crime or merely for a political protest. What were the accusations against him?"
"We are optimistic about receiving a favorable ruling from the court," he added.
The BJP leader accused the Trinamool Congress of trying to exclude names from the voter rolls of the Matua community during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral lists in the election-bound state.
Bhattacharya commented, "I must concede that they (Trinamool) have had some success in this endeavor."
He further stated, "Certain names from the Adivasi (tribal) community have also been removed by the Trinamool Congress. There have been disputes concerning several well-known names in society as well."
Moreover, Bhattacharya expressed, "If the Trinamool believes that by removing names from the voter list of the Matua and Adivasi communities, they will secure victory in the elections, they are mistaken."
He expressed confidence that the BJP will emerge victorious in all seven Assembly seats in Nadia district.
"The Trinamool will not even register a vote in Nadia," he concluded, asserting: "The Trinamool's era is over."
