Kolkata, Feb 13 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary and party Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee expressed his support for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent declaration that the party will contest independently in the significant Bengal Assembly elections of 2026, without any alliances, including with Congress.

During a media briefing on Thursday, Abhishek Banerjee stated that the key aspect of any election is public support, regardless of whether a party competes solo or in coalition with others.

“When there is public backing, victory is inevitable, whether a party is running independently or in partnership. A prime example of this is in West Bengal, where we have achieved success by contesting alone,” he remarked.

Earlier this week, the Chief Minister indicated that since Congress has no significant presence in West Bengal, an alliance would be out of the question.

She further stated in a meeting with party legislators that the Trinamool Congress will secure a fourth consecutive term in 2026, aiming for a two-thirds majority.

On Thursday, commenting on the recent Delhi Assembly election outcomes, Abhishek Banerjee noted that a significant factor in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s defeat was its inability to counter the misleading narratives propagated by the BJP against them.

“The BJP excels at deceiving the public. They ran a campaign claiming that the AAP government in Delhi had failed to deliver for the common people over the years. Unfortunately, the AAP was not successful in effectively addressing these negative portrayals by the BJP. Additionally, the elected AAP government faced restrictions that hampered its ability to operate freely for many years,” he added.
