Kolkata, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to emphasize the assault on party MP Khagen Murmu, who hails from a Scheduled Tribe background, throughout the nation to portray the Trinamool Congress as 'anti-tribal', as revealed by a party insider on Wednesday.
As part of its strategy, the BJP aims to showcase images of the tribal MP's injured face in numerous tribal regions, extending beyond West Bengal to other states. The objective is to frame the entire 'India' alliance, including Congress, as 'anti-tribal'.
Since Monday, the BJP has been circulating the photograph of the injured Khagen Murmu, accentuating the narrative surrounding the 'attack on the tribal MP'.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has also reinforced this message. Beginning Wednesday morning, the BJP's All India IT and Social Media Department launched a comprehensive campaign regarding the assault on Murmu.
A digital poster featuring the injured MP's image has been designed. This poster is presented in English for national visibility and in Bengali for West Bengal and Tripura. Some posters solely feature Khagen's photograph, while others include Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's image adjacent to the injured Murmu, with the caption, 'Shh! Even the tribals are under the wrath of the bloodthirsty Trinamool!'
BJP’s All India Head of IT and Social Media Department Amit Malviya shared the poster on his X handle, stating: "Those who do not miss any opportunity to impart knowledge about caste are silent like opportunists after the attack on the BJP's tribal MP by a murderous mob in West Bengal."
He further questioned: "Does the life of the tribals hold no value to Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi, and the Left ecosystem? Or are the tribals unimportant in their politics of selective outrage?"
This indicates that the BJP intends to draw attention to the attack on Murmu as part of a strategic counter-move.
The primary focus of the BJP’s campaign is West Bengal, given its upcoming Assembly polls next year. The BJP, which gained traction in the tribal-populated regions of the state during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, saw a decline in the subsequent elections.
To recover lost support, the BJP's state leadership plans to display the photograph of the injured Murmu as banners throughout all tribal-dominated areas of Bengal for the 2026 Assembly elections.
A senior BJP leader indicated that the party has two main goals behind publicizing the incident outside West Bengal. First, to tarnish Mamata Banerjee's reputation in national politics, and second, to unsettle parties like Congress and JMM. The BJP leadership aims to raise the question of why the parties that routinely target the BJP remain silent after a tribal MP was attacked.
It is noteworthy that elections have been announced in Bihar.
The constituency where the injured Khagen Murmu serves as MP is Maldaha Uttar, adjacent to Bihar and Jharkhand. Consequently, the BJP believes this campaign could significantly influence the tribal regions of Bihar.
Earlier today, the BJP stated that the attack on Murmu, a member of the tribal community, demonstrates how the tribal populace is "merely dispensable" in the selective outrage politics practiced not only by the Trinamool Congress but also by Congress and the Left parties.
BJP’s Information Technology Cell chief and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, made a social media statement questioning the silence of all opposition parties regarding the attack on Murmu, a two-time Lok Sabha member from the Maldaha (Uttar) constituency in Malda district of West Bengal.
"Those who never miss a chance to preach about caste seem conveniently silent when a Tribal BJP MP is assaulted by a violent mob in Bengal. Is it that Tribal lives and dignity don’t matter to Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi, and the Left ecosystem? Or are Tribals simply dispensable in their politics of selective outrage?" Malviya questioned in his social media statement.
Political analysts believe that Malviya deliberately tagged Congress and Left parties alongside Trinamool Congress in this effort to highlight the issue of the attack on Murmu, intending to unify voters from the Scheduled Tribe community in favor of the BJP as the critical West Bengal Assembly polls approach next year.
