New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) In a strong denunciation of the Trinamool Congress government's appeasement politics in West Bengal, Delhi BJP leaders staged a protest on Tuesday demanding an apology from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following a serious attack on a tribal party member in the state.
"We vehemently condemn the violent assault on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and other party leaders in West Bengal on Monday. A state known for its rich cultural and artistic heritage has sadly turned into a center of violence," remarked Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva in a statement to IANS.
The protest saw Delhi BJP leaders brandishing placards with messages directed at CM Banerjee, as they gathered outside Banga Bhawan in Central Delhi to express their outrage over the attacks on their colleague and others on Monday.
Sachdeva added, "Bengal, a place that once celebrated the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore, is now plagued by bomb blasts and stone pelting against elected officials."
"A tribal BJP MP who was attempting to assist the public has fallen victim to an attack by thugs. He is currently receiving treatment in the ICU," he stated.
He further accused CM Banerjee of politicizing the violent incident, asserting that the Trinamool Congress is engaging in Muslim appeasement.
"We demand that Mamata Banerjee apologize for the attack on BJP leaders and take decisive action to end the violence instigated by goons in the state," he urged.
The vehicle of BJP Lok Sabha member Murmu, along with the party's Chief Whip in the West Bengal Assembly, Shankar Ghosh, was reportedly attacked by Trinamool Congress activists in Bamundanga while they were en route to Nagrakata in the same district, delivering relief supplies to those affected by rain and landslides.
During the attack, Murmu sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized in Siliguri, located in the Darjeeling district.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the worsening law and order situation in West Bengal.
In a post on the social media platform X on Monday, PM Modi expressed, "The way our party members, including a sitting MP and MLA, were attacked in West Bengal for aiding those affected by floods and landslides is utterly shocking. It underscores the TMC's insensitivity and the dismal law and order situation in the state."
"I hope the West Bengal government and TMC focus more on aiding the populace rather than resorting to violence during such difficult times. I urge BJP workers to persist in their efforts among the people and support ongoing rescue operations," he added.
