BJP's Bhupen Borah Critiques Congress Manifesto, Claims Rahul Gandhi's Statements Lack Maturity
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 5 (NationPress) Bhupen Borah, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate contesting the Bihpuria Assembly seat in the upcoming April 9 elections in Assam, accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of being handed a "script" by Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam Congress President, which he deemed as stemming from "immaturity".
Borah, who has a 32-year history with the Congress, including 13 years as the Assam Congress President, emphasized that Rahul Gandhi's statements were scripted.
In an interview with IANS, he remarked, "With all due respect, I informed Rahul Gandhi that the script he received from Gaurav Gogoi lacks maturity."
Touching on the Congress manifesto, which claimed the party would deliver justice in the Zubeen Garg case within 100 days of taking office, Borah criticized, "It was inappropriate to promise justice to Zubeen Garg in that timeframe. Rahul Gandhi himself is out on bail for various cases and cannot even secure his own release from court, yet he plans to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg in 100 days?"
Expressing his concerns, Borah stated, "Rahul Gandhi is neither the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court nor of the Guwahati High Court," arguing that Gaurav Gogoi has "disgraced Rahul Gandhi by involving him in Assam's affairs."
Borah also highlighted issues of illegal infiltration, noting that during a recent rally led by Gaurav Gogoi, Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, claimed that if Congress regains power in Assam, Bangladeshis would be provided with land and housing.
Defending the eviction operations undertaken by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Borah asserted, "The eviction drive, supported by the populace, has cleared 1.5 lakh bighas of government land, which the government needs for industrial development and to tackle unemployment issues."
He accused the Congress of opposing the eviction of illegal immigrants in Assam.
Furthermore, Borah addressed an allegation from Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge, who claimed that the Central government influenced semiconductor companies to choose Assam and Gujarat over Karnataka, questioning the talent and infrastructure in those states.
Borah remarked, "Priyank Kharge stated that Assam lacks infrastructure."
He also claimed Gaurav Gogoi backed Priyank Kharge's statement.
"Assam is proud of its one-horned rhino. Under the tenure of Congress leader Rakibul Hussain as Forest Minister, over 400 rhinos were killed," Borah pointed out.
He asserted that he had previously advised Rahul Gandhi, during his leadership of the Assam Congress, that Rakibul "should not be the face of Assam Congress anymore."
Borah highlighted that since the BJP took power, not a single one-horned rhino has been killed.
Additionally, Borah criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly insulting the late singer Bhupen Hazarika by questioning the rationale behind Hazarika receiving the Bharat Ratna.
He challenged Kharge, stating, "I told him (Kharge) that he wrongly disrespected Bhupen Hazarika, who was honored with the Bharat Ratna by the BJP."
Borah requested Kharge to clarify his position on the matter.
"I asked (Mallikarjun) Kharge to assure the people of Assam that he genuinely respects Bhupen Hazarika, but was misled by someone," he stated.
"The Congress is continually making mistakes," Borah concluded.
