Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 28 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Saturday that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secures power in West Bengal following the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections, the necessary land for border fencing will be allocated within 45 days of the new government's assumption of office.
Shah criticized the current Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, for frequently blaming the Border Security Force (BSF) for issues related to illegal infiltration. He questioned the BSF's ability to act effectively if the state government fails to provide the land essential for establishing barbed fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border. According to Shah, the state has intentionally refrained from allocating land for border security, as illegal infiltrators constitute a significant vote bank for the ruling Trinamool Congress. He assured the public that post-elections, the BJP would take charge in West Bengal, and the land allotment process for border fencing would commence within 45 days.
During the press briefing, he also unveiled a “white paper” targeting the Trinamool Congress government, labeling it a “public chargesheet.”
Shah emphasized the BJP's commitment to alleviating the concerns of West Bengal residents regarding the demographic shifts caused by infiltrators influencing the electoral landscape.
“Currently, West Bengal stands as the sole corridor of infiltration in our nation. However, BJP is resolute in removing every infiltrator from the country. This election represents a chance to liberate citizens from fears of losing their lives, rights, social stability, property, income, and to restore their trust,” Shah stated.
He remarked on the deteriorating situation in West Bengal, noting that many citizens have begun to reminisce about the Communist era as being more stable.
“The safety of women has plummeted under the Trinamool Congress regime. Those engaging in crimes against women are often linked to the Trinamool Congress. It's imperative that such criminals face justice, irrespective of their political connections. This is already the case in BJP-ruled states, and similar reforms will follow in West Bengal once the BJP takes power,” Shah asserted.
In his address, the Union Home Minister commended West Bengal Assembly's Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, for his courageous efforts to oppose the Trinamool Congress regime.
