Will Bengal Tolerate Such Politics? BJP Responds to Amit Shah's Infiltration Accusation Against Mamata Government
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) The BJP expressed unwavering support for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statements regarding illegal infiltration in West Bengal, asserting that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has dismissed multiple appeals for the allocation of sufficient land to the Border Security Force (BSF) at the international border with Bangladesh.
Endorsing the Home Minister's claims, the BJP criticized the state government led by the Trinamool Congress for prioritizing vote-bank politics over essential national security issues.
Amit Shah, who is currently visiting Kolkata for three days, emphasized during a press conference, "If we take charge in West Bengal in 2026, our primary objective will not only be to halt illegal infiltration but also to remove those illegitimate entrants currently residing in the state."
He charged Mamata Banerjee with neglecting his numerous communications regarding land allotment for border security.
"I have dispatched seven letters to the Chief Minister concerning the land allocation for the BSF. There have been three high-level meetings in West Bengal to discuss this matter. My question is, why is the state government hesitant to provide land for barbed fencing? Without proper fencing, how can the BSF effectively secure the border?" Shah questioned.
The BJP stated that these claims pose significant questions for the state administration and demanded a transparent response.
BJP National Spokesperson Rohan Gupta remarked, "Home Minister Amit Shah has posed a crucial inquiry regarding the West Bengal government. If any state prioritizes vote-bank politics over such constitutional matters, I believe the citizens of West Bengal will reject such politics."
"The Home Minister accurately pointed out that while the Bengal government complains about infiltrators, it refuses to provide land for fencing when requested by the Centre. The West Bengal government must respond to this," he further added.
BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra also supported the Home Minister's position, emphasizing that the Centre is determined to eradicate infiltration across the nation.
In a statement, Mishra declared, "Regarding infiltrators, terrorists, Naxal activities, and similar threats, Home Minister Amit Shah is resolute. He has committed to removing infiltrators in West Bengal, the Northeast, or any part of the country."
The Home Minister also addressed the infiltration issue while countering allegations from the CPI(M)-led Left Front and certain Congress leaders, who have claimed that Mamata Banerjee enjoys political safety due to a covert agreement between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress at high levels.
Shah, however, accused the West Bengal government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of not just failing to combat infiltration but also of facilitating illegal infiltrators within the state.
