Kolkata, Dec 30 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Tuesday that the BJP's primary objective, should they gain power in West Bengal after the upcoming Assembly elections in 2026, will be to eliminate infiltrators from the state.
This declaration was made during his visit to Kolkata, where he arrived on Monday for a three-day engagement.
“If we achieve victory in West Bengal in 2026, our foremost task will be not just to halt illegal infiltration but also to expel those illegal infiltrators currently residing in the state,” the Union Home Minister remarked during a press conference.
He further criticized the state government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that they have not only failed to take action against infiltrators but have also provided them with support.
“I challenge Mamata Banerjee to name any other state government in India that opposes the construction of barbed fencing at the international border with Bangladesh. The issue of illegal infiltration in West Bengal is not merely a state concern; it has escalated into a national crisis,” Shah articulated.
In his opening comments, he also launched a fierce critique of the West Bengal government and the ruling Trinamool Congress regarding corruption.
“From chit fund scams to job scandals, and from coal to cattle smuggling, the involvement of Trinamool Congress leaders and ministers is rampant. Numerous ministers have been imprisoned due to corruption,” he stated.
Additionally, he claimed that the safety of women in West Bengal has deteriorated significantly during the Trinamool Congress era. “Whether at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, South Kolkata Law College, or Sandeshkhali, women in West Bengal are unsafe. Mamata Banerjee needs to answer the people regarding these matters,” the Union Home Minister asserted.
He emphasized that West Bengal holds great significance for the BJP, given that the party’s founder, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, hailed from this state.
Shah expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, citing the party's rising popularity trend in the state since 2016.
