Mamata Plans to Address Centre Regarding BSF's Role in Border Infiltration from Bangladesh

Kolkata, Jan 2 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared on Thursday that she intends to contact the Union Ministry of Home Affairs about the purported involvement of the Border Security Force (BSF) in facilitating illegal infiltration from the neighboring country of Bangladesh.

“The state police do not monitor the borders; it is the BSF that is accountable for that. Occasionally, they are said to be complicit in assisting such unlawful infiltrations,” Banerjee remarked.

She further stated, “Criminals are unlawfully crossing the borders, entering our state, and committing heinous acts against innocent individuals. The state police director general, Rajeev Kumar, has gathered specific intelligence on this matter, along with additional local insights. Once I have all the information, I will formally reach out to the Union government.”

Banerjee indicated that the districts of Malda and Nadia, which share international borders with Bangladesh, are the main gateways for illegal infiltrators. “I have consistently warned the Union government about this issue previously. This time, I will provide a more comprehensive report,” she underscored.

So far, the BSF has not responded to the Chief Minister’s allegations.

Earlier, during a public gathering in Diamond Harbour, located in the South 24 Parganas district, Trinamool Congress General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee echoed similar sentiments. He accused the BSF of fostering illegal infiltration to disrupt peace in West Bengal, leaving state police to handle the situation.

“They [BSF] are facilitating unauthorized crossings, disturbing the peace in our state, and ultimately, it is the state police who are left to make the arrests,” Abhishek Banerjee stated.

The Chief Minister's remarks come amid intense criticism from the opposition BJP. The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has charged the ruling Trinamool Congress with promoting illegal infiltration to enhance its minority vote bank.
