New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) BJP's National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Wednesday questioned Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra regarding her alleged involvement in tax evasion and "abetment" under income tax regulations.

Bhandari shared documents and references on his X account, asserting, "Instead of filing baseless cases to intimidate individuals on social media, she should respond to these allegations."

He probed whether she partook in "wilful tax evasion" and abetment due to transactions associated with a firm owned by her husband, former BJD MP Pinaki Misra.

In the content he reposted, Bhandari sought clarification from Moitra about her alleged provision of "professional services" to "White Lilly", a company managed by Misra.

He pointed out Misra's supposed admission in a May 8, 2014, interview, claiming that the company was a shell entity with no active business.

The inquiry asked whether the firm was utilized to disguise payments as "professional fees" for fraudulent activities, and if such arrangements between Moitra and her husband amounted to tax evasion under Section 276 of the Income Tax Act or other related violations.

Bhandari further argued that these transactions raised serious questions about impropriety, potential abetment under tax laws, and a significant breach of parliamentary ethics as dictated by the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha.

He tagged the Income Tax Department to prompt official scrutiny and contrasted Moitra's actions with her reported history of filing lawsuits to harass critics on social media.

The allegations have surfaced amid Moitra's recent personal milestones, including her marriage to Pinaki Misra in a private ceremony in Germany in 2025. Misra, a senior advocate and former four-term Lok Sabha member from Puri, Odisha, has family ties to multiple enterprises, including real estate and hospitality firms like White Lily Estates Pvt Ltd and Jupiter Estates Pvt Ltd, as highlighted in previous media reports.

Moitra, the Krishnanagar MP from West Bengal, recognized for her forthright nature and past controversies like the cash-for-query scandal, has not publicly addressed these recent accusations to date.

Bhandari's post, which received considerable interaction, including hundreds of likes and shares, underscores the ongoing political clash between the BJP and opposition leaders, primarily those from the Trinamool Congress. Should these allegations be substantiated, they could lead to investigations by tax authorities and ethical committees.
