Kolkata, Sep 12 (NationPress) In the face of intense criticism from both external and internal sources regarding her recent remarks about the Matua community, Mahua Moitra, the Trinamool Congress MP representing the Krishnanagar constituency in Nadia district of West Bengal, demonstrated resilience by reaffirming her position on the matter, which has sparked significant political debate throughout the state since early this month.
During a recent public gathering in Krishnanagar, Moitra addressed the voting tendencies of the Matua community, a Backward Class Hindu group that migrated to West Bengal as refugees from neighboring Bangladesh and established communities in areas of Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts, particularly leaning towards the BJP.
"What kind of approach is this when you are affiliated with the Trinamool Congress throughout the year, only to act like a traditional Hindu as elections approach? "The BJP is misinterpreting my comments. It is true that Trinamool Congress candidates lost in the Bangaon and Ranaghat Lok Sabha constituencies in two consecutive elections. Conversely, the BJP halted central funding for centrally-sponsored projects in West Bengal after their defeat in the state. That was my point," explained Moitra.
