Bomb Threats Reported at Guwahati Railway Station and University Campus

Guwahati, Dec 12 (NationPress) Authorities reported bomb threats at the Guwahati railway station and seven different locations within the Gauhati University campus on Thursday, according to police.

A police spokesperson indicated that following the alert from the Shillong police control room, teams from the Assam police commenced investigations at both the Guwahati railway station and various sites on the Gauhati University campus, but nothing suspicious was discovered by late evening.

"We received communication from the Shillong control room of Meghalaya Police suggesting that a bomb might be planted at the Guwahati railway station in Paltan Bazar. Consequently, multiple police teams, equipped with sniffer dogs and bomb detection gear, initiated a thorough search in the indicated areas, but no explosives were located," the official informed the media.

Additionally, an anonymous email was received by the Assam Police, indicating potential bomb placements at seven locations on the Gauhati University campus.

The Assam Police executed a search and sanitization operation at the university campus, while a similar operation was carried out at the Guwahati railway station in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

At this time, law enforcement has not confirmed any connections between the threats and the outlawed militant groups such as ULFA (I).

Senior police officials are actively investigating the situation to uncover further details.

"Following an extensive search by all relevant agencies, nothing unusual was found at any of the locations, and all police departments involved in the bomb detection operation have been notified," stated another police officer.

The officer also mentioned that the bomb threats could potentially be a false alarm.

A railway official disclosed that the caller's cell number has been traced, and further investigations are underway.

"We cannot release additional information at this time," the official added.
