New Delhi/Guwahati, March 18 (NationPress) In a notable political maneuver, newly affiliated BJP member Pradyut Bordoloi met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday, signaling a crucial shift in the political landscape of Assam as elections approach.

Accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bordoloi engaged in discussions with Shah at the Home Minister's office. This meeting is perceived as a strategic move by the BJP to bolster its influence in Assam by welcoming prominent political figures.

As per insider reports, Shah urged Bordoloi to participate in the upcoming Assembly elections. Union Minister Piyush Goyal was also present during this significant meeting. Following his induction into the BJP, Bordoloi promptly resigned from his position as a Lok Sabha MP.

Bordoloi expressed that his transition to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was motivated by his respect for CM Sarma and his growing discontent with the Congress party.

Addressing the media in the national capital after his official BJP affiliation, Bordoloi stated that he was greatly impressed by Sarma's governance style and work ethic.

“I have joined the BJP because of my admiration for the Chief Minister's efforts. His commitment to governance resonates with me deeply,” he remarked.

The former MP also voiced his frustrations regarding his treatment within Congress, highlighting that he felt undervalued within the party.

“I did not receive the respect I deserved in Congress, which led to a period of distress for me,” Bordoloi shared.

He pointed out that ongoing internal issues and a lack of recognition influenced his decision to leave Congress and embrace the BJP.

Bordoloi further emphasized his belief that the BJP would provide him with a platform to contribute meaningfully while honoring Assamese identity and dignity.

“In the BJP, my goal will be to safeguard the self-respect of the Assamese people,” he affirmed.

This announcement follows his formal induction into the BJP alongside senior party leaders in the national capital, indicating a significant transformation in Assam's political arena.

Bordoloi's decision is seen as a blow to the Congress party in Assam, particularly as political realignments gain traction ahead of the forthcoming elections.

His entry is anticipated to enhance the BJP's organizational strength in the state, with party officials expressing optimism that more opposition leaders may consider a similar shift in the near future.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed Bordoloi to the BJP, asserting that the Congress party no longer accommodates “self-respecting individuals.”

“I warmly welcome Pradyut Bordoloi to the BJP. Currently, there is no place for self-respecting individuals within Congress,” Sarma remarked, delivering a pointed critique of the opposition party.
