Assam CM: BJP Will Honor Pradyut Bordoloi If He Joins
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 17 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would extend "due respect" to Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi should he decide to switch parties, as political dynamics shift ahead of the looming Assembly elections.
After participating in a BJP election committee meeting in New Delhi, Sarma stated that the party welcomes leaders who are willing to enhance its organizational strength in Assam.
"If Pradyut Bordoloi decides to join the BJP, he will receive due respect. Additionally, the party may consider him for an Assembly ticket," the Chief Minister remarked, emphasizing the BJP's commitment to broadening its political influence in the region.
This announcement follows recent tensions within the Assam Congress, where Bordoloi has expressed his concerns to the party’s high command regarding its operations in the state.
Recently, internal conflicts surfaced when Bordoloi, a senior leader and Nagaon MP, reportedly communicated with the Congress leadership, alleging connections between a party MLA and an individual implicated in an attack on his convoy during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In his letter, Bordoloi claimed that Imdadul Islam, who faced allegations related to the convoy attack, has been "shielded" by Lahorighat MLA Asif Nazar.
Furthermore, Bordoloi pointed out that state party head Gaurav Gogoi was seen with Imdadul Islam, raising questions about the party's stance on violence.
To substantiate his allegations, Bordoloi included photographs in the correspondence sent to Congress leadership.
Sources revealed that these issues were also discussed at a Congress meeting in New Delhi, where Bordoloi brought this matter to the attention of senior party members.
Moreover, Bordoloi reportedly expressed disappointment over Gogoi's lack of response during the meeting.
This situation has highlighted ongoing disagreements within the Assam Congress as the party seeks to fortify its organizational framework ahead of the impending Assembly elections.
Despite Bordoloi formally notifying Congress leadership regarding these issues, there has been no official response from either Gogoi or the Lahorighat MLA to the allegations thus far.
