Pradyut Bordoloi Discusses His Shift from Congress to BJP
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi clarified on Thursday that his choice to leave the Congress and affiliate with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not a rushed decision but rather the result of ongoing dissatisfaction within the party.
In a conversation with IANS, Bordoloi articulated that multiple developments and a growing disconnection with the party's leadership were pivotal in his decision.
He remarked, "This is a lengthy narrative. It’s not a spur-of-the-moment choice. There have been various events, and I sensed a lack of empathy and camaraderie among party members. The party has not been engaging. I wanted to address several issues, but it became increasingly clear when the PCC leadership began to overlook us. I realized that trust was lacking among senior party leaders. Under such stifling circumstances, I felt incapable of making a meaningful contribution."
Bordoloi pointed out that the party leadership's unresponsiveness played a significant role in his shift in political allegiance.
When asked about his son, Prateek Bordoloi, he mentioned, "He received a ticket from the Congress party for my previous Assembly constituency, Margherita, which is my hometown in Assam. However, I have no insight into the situation, as we haven't communicated much lately."
In a noteworthy political shift ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, the BJP has announced Pradyut Bordoloi as their candidate for the Dispur Assembly constituency.
In a related turn of events, Prateek Bordoloi has retracted his nomination from the Margherita Assembly constituency, citing “current circumstances” following his father's transition to the BJP.
In a formal letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also the chair of the party’s Central Election Committee, Prateek Bordoloi expressed his decision with “the utmost respect and a profound sense of responsibility towards the party.”
