Could Gaurav Gogoi Follow Bordoloi in Leaving Congress? Insights from Nishikant Dubey
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Following the departure of Assam Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi from the Congress to the BJP, Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP from Jharkhand, remarked on Wednesday that it would not be surprising to witness further resignations from Congress leaders in the near future. He suggested that Gaurav Gogoi might also consider leaving the party.
While speaking to journalists outside Parliament, Dubey expressed concerns about the current state of Congress. “Is there anything left in Congress? As observed yesterday, Congress members failed to take their seats, did not participate, and did not even demonstrate; the party lacks both strength and the ability to engage in meaningful debate,” he stated.
He pointed out that the absence of Congress members was evident after an agreement was made with the Speaker to uphold decorum. “Have you seen any Congress members present? The party is approaching its conclusion. Today, with Pradyut Bordoloi’s departure, if Gaurav Gogoi were to resign in the future, it would not be shocking,” Dubey added.
BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticized Congress, asserting that the party is disintegrating. “The Congress is falling apart. There is no longer any trust in Rahul Gandhi. Both Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi and party vice president Navajyoti have resigned, citing a lack of coordination, communication, and consideration,” he declared.
Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi echoed similar views, indicating that Congress leadership has struggled to manage its internal matters. “You cannot manage your own house, safeguard your limited resources, or gain the trust of your members,” he asserted.
Bordoloi, who served as a minister in Assam during the Congress administration, joined the BJP in the company of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Dilip Saikia.
Pradyut Bordoloi expressed that he was “deeply hurt” and felt “left with no choice” but to resign from the Indian National Congress, citing ongoing humiliation and a lack of a supportive environment within the party's Assam unit.
Speaking to the press, Bordoloi remarked that the decision was painful but unavoidable. “I am saddened to take this step, but I had no other option. I was mentally hurt and internally drained,” he stated, indicating that issues within the party had been escalating for some time.
The veteran politician alleged that several senior Congress officials had “insulted” him on multiple occasions, leading to a sense of isolation. “I have devoted my entire life to the Congress, but today I feel utterly alone. I waited for hours to meet K.C. Venugopal, but was denied a meeting,” he said, highlighting the emotional burden of his departure.
