How is Unity Against Terrorism Being Celebrated in BRICS Parliamentary Forum?

New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) The Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh stated on Thursday that India's stance on critical issues, notably the recent tragic incident in Pahalgam and its ongoing push for global unity against terrorism, received widespread commendation during the recently wrapped-up 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum.

These views were unanimously captured in the forum's concluding joint declaration.

In particular, India's steadfast and principled approach to combating terrorism gained significant recognition.

While speaking to the media at the Parliament House, the Deputy Chairman remarked that the Indian delegation, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, categorically denounced terrorism in all its manifestations and vigorously advocated for the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.

He also pointed out that the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, hosted in Brasilia, was a notable success for India, with participation from the Parliaments of all 10 member nations.

This year’s assembly saw delegations from India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.

Parliament representatives actively participated in discussions, playing a significant role in shaping the joint declaration.

The Deputy Chairman stressed that the joint declaration firmly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, with members of Parliament committing to take collective measures against terrorism.

Echoing the Deputy Chairman's sentiments, the Indian delegation highlighted the pressing need for coordinated actions to eliminate financial backing for terrorist groups, bolster intelligence sharing, prevent the exploitation of new technologies, and enhance collaboration in investigations and judicial processes.

He underscored that India's strategy was notably acknowledged, with BRICS Parliaments asserting that active involvement from all member nations is crucial for maintaining global peace and security.

Commending the accomplishments of the Indian delegation, the Deputy Chairman remarked that they effectively communicated India's robust and clear position on several pivotal issues, particularly the necessity for international collaboration against terrorism, the quest for a fair and balanced global order, engagement in technological advancements, and the promotion of democratic dialogue.

He also mentioned that after multiple rounds of detailed discussions, a broad agreement was reached on key global matters, including the responsible use of artificial intelligence, global trade and economy, inter-Parliamentary cooperation, and international peace and security.

At the conclusion of the Forum, India was honored with the task of hosting the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum next year, with Lok Sabha Speaker Birla officially taking on the role of chair.

In his recent address, the Lok Sabha Speaker spoke on four sub-themes: towards stronger and more sustainable BRICS Inter-Parliamentary cooperation; BRICS Parliaments united for reforming the multilateral peace and security architecture; inter-Parliamentary cooperation for responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence; and BRICS Parliamentary action in pursuit of new economic development pathways.
