New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development, Jayant Chaudhary, is spearheading a significant Knowledge Exchange Mission to the Philippines, with facilitation from the World Bank, as announced on Tuesday.
An official statement revealed that the Indian delegation comprises senior officials from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, along with representatives from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
The mission aims to engage strategically with pivotal Philippine institutions, including the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), according to the statement.
This mission underscores the collective commitment of the Global South to work together on human capital development, foster mutual learning, and establish avenues for equitable and sustainable growth through skills and entrepreneurship.
The statement further noted, “The visit aims at enhancing knowledge exchange and sharing best practices in areas concerning skills development, labor mobility, and data-driven policy frameworks.”
Based on official trade statistics from the Department of Commerce, the value of bilateral trade between India and the Philippines surpassed the $3 billion threshold for the first time in 2022-23, compared to $1.89 billion in 2015-16.
In 2023-24, bilateral trade reached $3.53 billion. As of March 2024, India's exports to the Philippines tallied $350 million, while imports amounted to $92.3 million, resulting in a favorable trade balance of $258 million for India.
