Los Angeles, Dec 18 (NationPress) Renowned filmmaker James Cameron has revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be appearing in the forthcoming ‘Terminator’ film.
The 78-year-old actor has portrayed the iconic T-800 in Cameron's sci-fi franchise since its inception in 1984, but the director has now confirmed that the beloved actor will not be part of the latest installment as “it’s time for a new generation of characters” to take charge of the series, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.
In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the 71-year-old director stated, “I can safely say he won’t be (in it). It’s time for a new generation of characters. I insisted Arnold had to be involved in ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’, and it was a great finish to him playing the T-800. There needs to be a broader interpretation of ‘Terminator’ and the idea of a time war and super intelligence. I want to do new stuff that people aren’t imagining.”
Although Schwarzenegger's iconic role will not be part of the next ‘Terminator’ film, this isn’t the first time the ‘Predator’ star has been absent from the franchise; he also did not participate in 2009’s ‘Terminator: Salvation’ while serving as Governor of California.
When questioned about whether he had finalized the concept for the next ‘Terminator’ movie, Cameron hinted that he was “working on it.”
According to ‘Female First UK’, the director of ‘Titanic’ also mentioned plans to return to the ‘Terminator’ series after completing work on ‘Avatar’.
He stated, “Once the dust clears on Avatar in a couple of months, I’m going to really plunge into that. There are a lot of narrative problems to solve. The biggest is how do I stay enough ahead of what’s really happening to make it science fiction?”
The latest entry in the ‘Avatar’ series, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, is scheduled to premiere on December 19, 2025.
