Los Angeles, Jan 20 (NationPress) Acclaimed director James Cameron has heightened anticipation for “Avatar 3: Fires and Ash” by suggesting it may be the most daring “Avatar” installment yet.
In a conversation with the U.K.’s Empire Magazine, the filmmaker elaborated on what fans can expect from this new chapter in the worldwide franchise. He emphasized that his intention is not to merely imitate the previous two films but to make “audacious choices” that might not align with expectations.
“It’s a tricky thing,” Cameron, 70, remarked. “We could be getting high on our own supply here, and everyone who looks at it [the upcoming film] goes, ‘F—, that’s not what I signed up for.’”
He continued: “However, if you’re not making bold choices, you’re wasting everyone’s time and resources. That alone might not guarantee success, but it’s essential. You must break the mold each time.”
The director also indicated that viewers can anticipate high-stakes scenarios, mentioning that while they might be taken to “unexpected places,” those experiences will feel justified, as reported by people.com.
“We have some incredibly clever action sequences. You can definitely feel the adrenaline in this movie. But what excites me as an artist who recently turned 70 and has done all that stuff is not only the chance to do it again but also to explore a level of character and intrigue not previously seen in an Avatar film.”
Cameron asserted that the film is in “excellent shape”, especially in comparison to his prior “Avatar” movie, Avatar: The Way of Water.
“We’ve completed twice as many shots at this stage compared to movie two (and) both films are roughly the same length. So, we’re well ahead of schedule, which is something I’ve never actually experienced before,” he shared.
“We’re reaching a point where we’re genuinely getting skilled at this,” he said with a chuckle.
“Avatar 3: Fires and Ash” is set to premiere in theaters on December 19, 2025.
