Bhubaneswar, April 1 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a case of cheating and forgery against a junior engineer of Indian Railways and three other former engineers who held various roles at Rajgangpur in Odisha, as confirmed by an official on Tuesday.
The FIR was lodged on Monday following directives from the Lokpal of India, which previously reviewed a complaint submitted last year alleging misconduct by the accused Railway officials in connection with a construction firm.
This corruption case highlights criminal misconduct by public servants currently or previously employed in the Works Department of the Indian Railways.
The three former railway officials from Rajgangpur mentioned in the CBI investigation include the then senior section engineer, works, the then junior engineer, works, and the then electrical engineer, works.
A CBI representative stated that the FIR also cites a construction company among the accused, while maintaining the anonymity of the public servants involved.
The FIR was lodged under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, addressing issues such as “criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, the use of forged documents, and criminal misconduct by a public servant,” the official added.
The FIR notes, “In compliance with the directions of the Lokpal of India, a Regular Case No. RC0152025A0003 (RC-03(A)/2025-BBS) is registered against the public servants and unknown others under sections 120B, 420, 468, and 471 of the IPC, corresponding with sections 61, 318, 336, and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).”
“In this order, the Lokpal of India has also mandated keeping the identities of the complainant and Respondent Public Servants confidential as per Rule 4 and other enabling provisions of the Lokpal (Complaint) Rules, 2020. A copy of the order dated March 4, 2025, from the Lokpal is attached,” the FIR filed on Monday states.
The FIR indicates that the alleged corruption and misconduct by the Railway officials transpired at Rajgangpur, nearly 350 km from Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar.
