The court also levied a penalty of Rs 30,000 against him, as stated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in an official announcement released on Wednesday.
The conviction occurred on December 9, according to the statement.
The case stemmed from a complaint lodged by a contractual assistant professor at UIET, who alleged that Dwivedi had solicited an undue advantage of Rs 50,000 to facilitate the extension of the assistant professor's contractual appointment.
Dwivedi claimed that the extension would be processed through the Director of UIET, demanding a bribe to guarantee the renewal.
Following the complaint, the CBI initiated the case on June 2, 2017, and set up a trap. During this operation, Dwivedi was apprehended while soliciting and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
Upon completing the investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet against him on August 1, 2017. The prosecution presented evidence, including witness statements, trap proceedings, and the recovered money, to prove Dwivedi's guilt.
After a thorough trial, the CBI Court convicted Dwivedi of demanding and accepting illegal gratification, sentencing him to four years’ imprisonment.
The court also mandated the payment of a Rs 30,000 fine. This judgment, as stated by the agency, underlines the CBI's dedication to fighting corruption within public institutions.
The CBI remains proactive in investigating bribery cases, resulting in the conviction of both public servants and private citizens for soliciting or accepting bribes, with penalties that include imprisonment and substantial fines.
