New Delhi, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday provided clarification to dispel the rumors that Punjabi was taken off the list of regional language subjects for Class 10.

Earlier, news of Punjabi's alleged removal from the Class 10 subjects list by CBSE ignited significant backlash in Punjab, leading parties like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to denounce this supposed action.

In response to these claims, CBSE issued a statement asserting: “No subject has been removed from Class 10. All subjects, including Punjabi, will remain unchanged.”

The uproar followed the CBSE's release of a draft policy on Tuesday regarding the proposed Dual Board Exams for Class 10 starting from the 2025-26 academic year under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

This draft policy was made public for feedback on Tuesday. AAP, Congress, and SAD raised concerns about the central government's initiative and claimed that Punjabi as a subject was absent from the CBSE's draft policy.

CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj confirmed that there will be no alterations to the existing list of subjects offered by the board.

“All subjects currently available will persist as before. These subjects will be included in both stages of board examinations,” Bhardwaj emphasized.

CBSE clarified that the subjects listed in the draft are merely suggestive.

On Tuesday evening, CBSE published the draft for conducting board exams biannually. The draft of the new examination system is accessible for review on the official CBSE website.

All stakeholders, including schools, educators, parents, students, and the general public, are invited to provide feedback on the proposed policy.

CBSE stated that the draft policy was crafted after thorough discussions and is now available on the CBSE website.

Feedback on the draft policy will be accepted until March 9, 2025. The responses will be reviewed, and the policy will be finalized later.

CBSE has announced significant modifications to the Class 10 board examination format starting next year.

According to this regulation, Class 10 board examinations will commence on February 15 for the first time each year. The examinations will conclude by March 6 for the first time. The second phase of the board exam will take place from May 5 to May 20.

The benefit of the new system is that students will have the option to retake the examination if they wish. However, they can also choose to take the exam just once.
