How Did Chandigarh Acid Attack Survivor Kafi Achieve 95.6% in CBSE Class 12?

Chandigarh, May 14 (NationPress) Kafi's life was plunged into darkness before she even had the chance to grasp the concept of light. At merely three years old, her existence was irrevocably changed when a neighbor threw acid at her amidst a family quarrel. The attack rendered her blind, but it did not shatter her spirit.

On Tuesday, Kafi amazed everyone by achieving an outstanding 95.6 percent in the CBSE Class 12 humanities examination, demonstrating that it is courage, not vision, that truly defines one's perspective.

A student at the Institute for the Blind in Sector 26, Chandigarh, Kafi has been a symbol of resilience for many years. With the announcement of the CBSE results, she has not only emerged as the top student in her class but has also motivated a nation.

“I hail from Hisar in Haryana. When I learned of my result, I was overwhelmed with happiness, but more importantly, I felt proud to bring joy to my parents. They have made numerous sacrifices for me,” she shared with IANS.

Kafi’s path has been anything but typical. The attack occurred in 2011 during the Holi festival, a time meant for joy and color.

“I was just three. We couldn’t comprehend their actions—there was no personal animosity. But everything changed after that,” she reflected.

She spent several years undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi. When it became evident that her sight would not return, her family made a courageous choice—to send her back to school and allow education to shape her future.

Kafi entered a classroom for the first time in 2016, five years post-attack. Today, she stands proudly among over 1.6 million students who sat for the CBSE Class 12 exams, her name shining brighter than ever.

Kafi's aspirations soar higher than her grades.

“I aim to become an IAS officer. I want to serve my country with integrity and commitment. I believe that survivors like me do not seek sympathy; we seek empathy and opportunities,” she declared.

Her message is both simple and powerful: “We may have limited options, but we study and achieve.”

Throughout her journey, Kafi has benefitted immensely from the unwavering support of her parents.

“Like all parents, they have guided me every step of the way,” she noted in her conversation with IANS.

“They made sacrifices so I could dream, and that motivated me to give my all. I wanted to make them proud.”

On Tuesday, as the CBSE results were revealed, girls once again outperformed boys. The overall pass rate was 88.39 percent, with girls achieving an impressive 91.64 percent, a nearly six percentage point lead over boys.

Among these accomplished young women, Kafi's name resonates as a beacon of resilience, determination, and strength. Her story transcends academics; it’s about transforming pain into purpose.

In a world where acid attacks continue to rob many girls of their dignity and dreams, Kafi serves as a powerful reminder that no darkness is insurmountable when determination lights the way. Though her scars may remain, so too does her spirit—a spirit that continues to rise, learn, and lead.
