New Delhi, Nov 9 (NationPress) The Delhi BJP criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday for selecting a male candidate for a by-election in a Municipal Corporation of Delhi ward reserved for women, and uncovered an effort to tarnish the reputation of the Rekha Gupta government by disseminating an outdated video on social media.
Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor from the Delhi BJP remarked that the AAP disclosed its candidate list for by-elections to 12 wards, alarmingly nominating Keshav Chauhan for the Dichaon Kalan ward, which is designated for women.
Furthermore, Kapoor criticized the AAP for nominating a candidate with a purported criminal history from the Vinod Nagar ward.
From the Vinod Nagar ward, the AAP selected Geeta Rawat, a former councillor, who had been detained for alleged bribery.
The BJP spokesperson labeled the day as a “Sunday of Scandals” for the AAP, claiming to have unveiled three troubling aspects of its leadership.
The third scandal involved AAP leaders sharing an old interview with Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on social media, intending to portray the current BJP government under Rekha Gupta unfavorably, he stated.
Kapoor pointed out that the Lieutenant Governor's remarks were made on January 12, during the AAP's governance under former Chief Minister Atishi, yet it was shared on social media on Sunday.
He noted that while the LG's comments aimed to highlight the inefficacy of the then AAP government, the AAP attempted to manipulate the information to discredit the present BJP administration.
“We have unveiled this deception, turning this Sunday into a Black Sunday for the AAP,” Kapoor added.
Discussing the AAP's blunder in nominating a male for the Dichaon Kalan ward, Kapoor stated, “While the AAP frequently accuses others of fostering dynastic politics, they seem to have intended to award the ticket to Chauhan’s wife but instead directly listed him—exposing their inclination towards family-oriented politics.”
Due to a lack of suitable candidates, AAP leadership was forced to nominate Geeta Rawat for Vinod Nagar, despite her previous jail time for bribery in 2021-22. This evidently indicates that the AAP has abandoned the politics of integrity, he concluded.
