Chandrababu Naidu Unveils Vision for Amaravati: Aiming to Overtake Hyderabad
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, announced on Sunday that the development of Amaravati aims to exceed that of Hyderabad.
He emphasized that the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh is revitalizing Amaravati after enduring five years of neglect. "Amaravati is set to rise as a capital city that will outshine even Hyderabad," he declared.
Naidu highlighted that by harnessing technology, the government is working on transforming Amaravati into a “Smart City” and a “Blue-Green” capital.
Speaking at the South Asian Learning Summit 2026 focused on AI transformation at the Indian School of Business (ISB), he reflected on his past initiatives as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004, which laid the foundation for Hyderabad's growth as an IT hub.
“I envisioned the future and recognized that the knowledge economy was the way forward, which guided my decisions back in 1995. Despite numerous challenges, I built the city step by step, hosting meetings and brainstorming sessions with industrial leaders and academics,” he recounted, mentioning his discussions with Bill Gates that led to Microsoft’s establishment in Hyderabad.
“We erected the 'Cyber Towers' as a landmark of the IT revolution. This was driven by the desire to serve the public. Microsoft opted for Hyderabad over cities like Bengaluru and Chennai. The impact of these initiatives has been felt for three decades. As part of this vision, we also facilitated the establishment of the Indian School of Business (ISB),” he added.
Naidu praised ISB for its outstanding reputation as a premier business institution. He noted that the 'Genome Valley' project was also born from a similar visionary process.
“Thanks to the decisions made in the past, both Telugu states now lead the pharmaceutical sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hyderabad's Genome Valley provided vaccines globally,” he stated.
“The ecosystem in Hyderabad was shaped by the reforms introduced in IT, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure. Hyderabad grew into one of the world’s most livable cities. This transformation was not instantaneous; it was the result of a series of factors, including early inspections and strategic policy decisions,” he continued.
Naidu remarked that although Andhra Pradesh was divided into two states for political reasons, the earlier decisions had significantly increased the per capita income of the Telugu population.
“When we regained power in Andhra Pradesh in 2024, the entire state was in disarray. Its reputation was marred, and its institutional frameworks were entirely dismantled,” he mentioned, asserting that the coalition government has taken numerous measures to restore the state to progress.
The Chief Minister claimed that Andhra Pradesh is now at the forefront of attracting investments.
Recognizing that future technologies will center around Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Drones, the state government has initiated the establishment of specialized hubs for Space, Electronics, and Drone technologies, he noted.
Additionally, the government is focusing on Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia, which are predicted to dominate the energy sector. With sustainable energy generation, there will be no necessity for future electricity tariff increases, he stated.
He concluded that Andhra Pradesh is poised to lead the South Indian region in green energy production.
