Chennai, April 2 (NationPress) Anticipating the surge in summer vacation travelers, Chennai Airport has unveiled 206 additional flights as part of its “Summer Special” program.
This initiative consists of 42 international and 164 domestic flights, designed to cater to the notable increase in passenger numbers expected during the summer holiday period.
As schools and colleges close for summer and temperatures rise nationwide, the influx of travelers has surged, particularly those traveling for leisure or returning to their hometowns.
Typically, the airport accommodates around 50,000 passengers daily, but this number is projected to rise to over 55,000, potentially nearing 60,000 in the weeks ahead.
To effectively manage this increased demand, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has introduced more domestic and international flights from Chennai for the summer.
Air India has boosted its operations to Sri Lanka, raising weekly flights from 7 to 10.
SpiceJet has also responded by adding 7 new weekly flights on the same route.
Alliance Airlines is restarting its Chennai–Jaffna services, which were temporarily halted due to severe weather, with 7 weekly flights.
Air India Express has increased its weekly flights to Kuwait from 5 to 7, to Muscat from 1 to 2, and to Dammam from 2 to 3.
IndiGo will now offer 7 weekly flights to Kuwait.
Oman Air has expanded its Muscat services, increasing from 11 to 14 flights weekly, while Gulf Airways is enhancing its Chennai–Bahrain frequency from 7 to 10 weekly flights.
Additionally, Bangla Airlines is significantly ramping up its flights to Dhaka, increasing from 3 to 11 weekly services.
On the domestic side, Air India is bolstering its network, with the number of weekly flights from Chennai to Bengaluru increasing from 12 to 23 and from Chennai to Delhi from 70 to 77.
The weekly flights from Chennai to Madurai will rise from 7 to 14, and Chennai to Mumbai flights will increase from 42 to 49.
Air India Express is also enhancing its domestic routes with additional flights to Kochi, Guwahati, and Hyderabad, along with new routes to Varanasi and Noida.
IndiGo will expand services to Thoothukudi, Tiruchy, Kochi, and Ahemdabad. Meanwhile, SpiceJet is adding flights to Ayodhya, Kochi, Hyderabad, Madurai, and several other destinations.
A total of 164 special domestic flights have been activated at Chennai Airport as part of this initiative.
Many of these flights are already operational, while others will be launched in phases according to passenger demand.
