Chennai, Nov 11 (NationPress) The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has initiated specialized coaching programs in 81 schools to assist students from Classes X, XI, and XII in their preparation for competitive examinations.
In addition, the civic authority has established a supplementary support initiative targeting slow learners through tailored subject-specific study booklets and personalized counseling sessions conducted by qualified educators.
This initiative, revealed during the 2025-2026 civic budget discussions, aims to provide students with dedicated preparation in Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography—key subjects for both board assessments and competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and civil service entry tests.
The classes are led by teachers from the GCC’s own institutions who have received training in exam-centric teaching methodologies. Each school is set to receive an incentive ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh based on student engagement, with a total budget of Rs 40.50 lakh allocated for this initiative.
This scheme is part of the GCC’s broader educational enhancement strategy aimed at boosting learning outcomes in government schools. Classes will be held daily after lunch and may extend beyond regular school hours.
“Each session lasts approximately an hour, focusing on one subject daily. This structure allows students to deepen their understanding and maintain consistent preparation,” remarked a senior education department official.
The GCC has also begun providing guidance on applying for various competitive examinations and completing the required documentation.
“Preparatory materials have been distributed to ensure all students have access to standardized study resources,” stated another senior official.
For slow learners, the civic authority has introduced a specialized program to help them keep pace with their peers. Teachers known for their successful track records in board examinations have developed simplified subject-specific booklets in a question-and-answer format.
“If utilized properly, these resources will aid students in boosting their scores and enhancing their confidence,” added a senior education department official.
Through these initiatives, the GCC aspires to elevate the academic performance of its students, close learning gaps, and empower them to compete effectively in higher education and professional entrance examinations.
