Chennai, Nov 13 (NationPress) In an exciting initiative aimed at enhancing public transport usage and promoting cashless travel, commuters utilizing the Chennai One mobile app can now acquire a ticket for just Re 1 on all Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses, Metro Rail, and suburban trains.
This special promotion, which was launched on Thursday morning, aims to attract more individuals to embrace digital ticketing and cohesive public transport services.
The Chennai One app, unveiled on September 22 by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, stands as the city’s first all-encompassing daily commute application.
The app offers users the ability to plan routes, monitor buses and trains, execute digital transactions, and even reserve autos and rental vehicles.
Since its launch, the app has garnered impressive traction, with 5.5 lakh downloads and approximately 8 lakh tickets purchased by users.
While announcing this new promotion, Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) Member-Secretary Jeyakumar stated that the goal is to motivate individuals to enjoy seamless, cashless travel.
He mentioned that Chennai One users can benefit from a ticket priced at Re 1 for any selected mode - bus, Metro, or suburban rail. This offer is redeemable only once, after which standard fares will apply.
To qualify, payments must be made through BHIM UPI or Namma UPI within the Chennai One app.
Authorities indicated that this initiative aims to familiarize Chennai residents with digital ticketing, which has already gained popularity among early users.
In just a month, the app has recorded 5.5 lakh registered users, 14 lakh journey searches, and 8.1 lakh ticket purchases.
Users have commended the app for its sleek interface and the convenience of managing buses, Metro, suburban trains, and taxi services from a single platform, utilizing a unified QR-code system for scheduling, payment, and tracking.
Officials asserted that the Re 1 initiative aligns with the app's promise of 'One City, One App, One Ticket,' creating significant excitement among commuters.
The government believes this will streamline daily travel and render public transport more efficient, safer, and environmentally sustainable.
To take advantage of this offer, users should download or open the Chennai One app, choose their destination, and pay Re 1 via BHIM UPI or Namma UPI to receive their digital ticket.
This offer is applicable for a single journey and cannot be combined with other promotions. After the initial discounted ride, subsequent trips will incur standard fares.
