Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) The Indian Railways' RailOne App has achieved a remarkable milestone with 2.57 crore downloads and an impressive average of 7.64 lakh ticket bookings each day, according to a government announcement made on Wednesday.
Currently, approximately 88% of reserved tickets are purchased online, as stated by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw during the Lok Sabha session.
To enhance passenger convenience, Indian Railways has incorporated various technological solutions, including the RailOne App, which facilitates the booking of both reserved and unreserved tickets in addition to traditional counter services.
According to the Ministry of Railways, this initiative has effectively placed the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) directly in the hands of passengers. The RailOne App features advanced security and privacy protocols.
The app combines functionalities for reserved and unreserved ticketing, platform tickets, train inquiries, PNR status, Railmadad, and grievance redressal into a single, user-friendly platform, available for download from both the Android Play Store and Apple App Store.
Additionally, passengers can also reserve tickets via the app or website of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Indian Railways collaborates with a variety of agents for ticketing, including halt agents, Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks, Station Ticket Booking Agents, and M-UTS Sahayaks for unreserved ticketing. The statement highlighted the role of Yatri Tickets Suvidha Kendra Licensees in assisting with both reserved and unreserved tickets.
Importantly, there are no prerequisites for having prior experience in railway ticketing to engage as agents in these capacities, as noted in the announcement.
Furthermore, the IRCTC employs E-ticketing agents to facilitate the issuance of reserved e-tickets.
These initiatives aim to empower eligible individuals, particularly educated unemployed youth, thereby promoting self-employment and enhancing access to railway ticketing services, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
Agents are appointed for a predetermined tenure in line with the scheme's policies and can be dismissed for any violations of the terms. The renewal of appointments and the solicitation of new applications upon the expiration of tenure is an ongoing process, the statement concluded.
