New Delhi, Oct 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his warmest wishes on Sunday for the significant occasion of Chhath Puja, highlighting the festival as a remarkable illustration of India's social unity, where individuals from diverse backgrounds unite in prayer.

The four-day celebration of faith and commitment, Chhath Puja, commenced on Saturday with the sacred ceremony of 'Nahay-Khaay'. This festival, dedicated to the Sun god, honors the balance between nature and humanity, embodying purity, gratitude, and discipline.

On this day, devotees are celebrating the second phase of the festival, known as 'Kharna'. On this day, participants fast from dawn until dusk, abstaining from both food and water. This fast is concluded only after offerings are made to the Sun God at sunset.

In his 127th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi remarked, "The entire nation is currently enveloped in the joy of festivals. Recently, we celebrated Diwali, and now many are engaged in Chhath Puja. Homes are bustling with the preparation of 'Thekua', ghats are being beautifully decorated, and markets are lively with enthusiasm. A beautiful blend of devotion, warmth, and tradition is visible everywhere."

He praised the dedication of those observing the Chhath fast, stating, "The commitment of women preparing for this festival with sincerity is genuinely inspiring."

The Prime Minister also drew a connection between Chhath Puja and the profound unity found within society.

"The grand festival of Chhath symbolizes the deep unity among culture, nature, and society. At the Chhath Ghats, individuals from all walks of life come together. This sight is the most exquisite demonstration of India's social unity," he said.

He encouraged everyone to join in the celebrations, adding, "Wherever you may be in the country or across the globe, if given the opportunity, participate in the Chhath festival and witness this extraordinary celebration firsthand."

"I pay my respects to Chhati Maiya. I extend my heartfelt wishes for the splendid festival of Chhath to all citizens, especially the people of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Purvanchal (eastern Uttar Pradesh)," PM Modi continued.

Mass gatherings are anticipated at various bathing ghats nationwide, where thousands of devotees will partake in the rituals with unwavering faith.

With origins in the Satyuga and Dwapara Yuga, Chhath Puja is considered one of the oldest forms of Sun worship. Devotees observe strict fasting, abstaining from food and water for prolonged periods to express their devotion and seek blessings for prosperity, health, and happiness. Worshipping Surya during Chhath is believed to eliminate negativity and invite peace and positivity.

Chhath Puja stands as one of the most significant Hindu festivals, primarily celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is also observed in parts of Nepal and among Indian communities globally.
