Raipur, Nov 18 (NationPress) Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced on Tuesday that the BJP-led state administration will expand the “half electricity bill” scheme to encompass up to 200 units of electricity usage, a considerable increase from the previous 100-unit limit.
Chief Minister Sai made this declaration at the Assembly building, where he attended a special one-day session focused on the 25-year parliamentary journey of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.
“The Chhattisgarh BJP aimed to make this momentous occasion historic; hence, our government revealed that consumers using up to 200 units of electricity will be required to pay only half of their total bill,” he stated during a press interaction at the Assembly premises.
He emphasized that the BJP-led state government is dedicated to delivering the advantages of various schemes from both the Centre and the state to assist the residents of Chhattisgarh.
Reflecting on the 25 years since the state's establishment, he remarked, “Chhattisgarh has experienced remarkable growth over the past quarter-century. Our government is steadfast in its commitment to ensure the continuous development of Chhattisgarh and its citizens.”
This expansion comes after the earlier reduction of the threshold from 400 to 100 units in August, for which CM Sai's administration faced criticism from the Congress party.
This ‘half bill’ initiative, benefiting over 45 lakh domestic electricity users in Chhattisgarh, was originally introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of the Congress party in 2019.
In response to Chief Minister Sai's announcement, Deepak Baij, President of the Chhattisgarh Congress, asserted that Congress has been urging the BJP government to revert the limit to 400 units, a measure implemented by the Congress government back in 2019.
The special Assembly session was part of the ongoing celebration of Chhattisgarh's 25 years, which commenced on November 1.
