New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font has landed in New Delhi for a five-day official visit to India. Upon arrival, he was warmly greeted by Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita and was given a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the airport.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced his arrival with a message: "Bienvenido, President Gabriel Boric! President Boric of Chile has arrived in New Delhi for his first State Visit to India, receiving a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour."
Accompanied by a high-ranking delegation that includes ministers, parliament members, senior officials, business representatives, media personnel, and key Chileans involved in the India-Chile cultural exchange, Boric will travel to Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru before concluding his visit on April 5.
After touching down in India, the Chilean President took to X, stating, "6:30 a.m. in New Delhi, and from here we commence this State Visit to India, an important occasion for enhancing and diversifying our economic, political, and cultural ties at a time when multilateral cooperation is more critical than ever. We are discussing the fifth largest economy and the most populous nation on Earth, with whom we share common interests and opportunities for growth in key fields like agribusiness, innovation, and the creative industries."
Emphasizing the enhancement of bilateral relations, he remarked, "We're here to fortify and strengthen our connections, and that's why I'm joined by government officials, the National Congress, business leaders, innovators in culture, esteemed professors, and students. A packed schedule ahead. I'll keep you updated!"
The President is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 1, where the two leaders will discuss the full range of India-Chile relations. PM Modi will also host a special luncheon in Boric's honour.
Moreover, the Chilean President will engage with his Indian counterpart, President Droupadi Murmu, for further discussions, following which a banquet will be held in his honour.
In Mumbai and Bengaluru, Boric will meet with political leaders, industry figures, startup entrepreneurs, and technology innovators, promoting collaboration between the two nations across different sectors.
The MEA highlighted that this State Visit provides a platform for both nations to evaluate their bilateral ties and discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest.
"India-Chile relations have always been defined by warmth, friendship, and a shared perspective on numerous matters. Both countries collaborate extensively in multilateral forums and hold similar views on climate change, renewable energy, and the expansion and reform of the UNSC," the MEA stated.
"Chile has consistently voiced its support for India's bid for a permanent seat in the UNSC, as reiterated in a Joint Statement following the official visit of the Chilean Foreign Minister to India in April 2003. Chile aligns with India's concerns regarding the global threat of terrorism and has condemned all forms of terrorism," it added.
Recently, a parliamentary delegation led by BJP Lok Sabha MP Jagdambika Pal visited Chile from January 11-15, participating in the Summit meeting at the Congreso Futuro on January 13 and the Third World Summit of the Committees of the Future on January 14, engaging in detailed discussions with Chilean parliamentarians on various issues.
