"On CISF Raising Day, we commend the brave members of the Central Industrial Security Force for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding India’s critical infrastructure. Their courage, discipline, and service are foundational to our nation’s security," he added.
The CISF Raising Day is celebrated nationally to honor and express gratitude to the personnel of the force for their integral role in safeguarding industrial establishments and vital infrastructure across India. This day marks the formal establishment of the Central Industrial Security Force in 1969 under an Act of the Indian Parliament.
Initially, the CISF was tasked with providing security solely to industries fully owned by the Central Government. Over the years, its mandate has broadened, now encompassing joint-venture enterprises where the Central Government has an investment. The organization operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, adhering to its regulations.
The necessity for a specialized force like the CISF became evident following the 1965 India-Pakistan war, as the security of India’s public sector institutions, including critical oil refineries and power plants, faced serious threats.
In recognition of this pressing need, the Government of India established the CISF on March 10, 1969, assigning it the crucial responsibility of ensuring the protection of these institutions and their smooth, uninterrupted operations.
Today, the CISF serves as a protective shield for India’s Public Sector Undertakings and other essential infrastructure installations, including airports, seaports, and major industrial facilities.
