Mumbai, Sep 29 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted a review of the flood situation in Marathwada and the water discharges from various dams throughout the state. He instructed all District Collectors to keep their equipment ready for relief and rescue operations.
In a post on X, CM Fadnavis stated, “Currently, the Jayakwadi Dam is discharging 1,88,000 cusecs. Thankfully, the rain has ceased, so there is no immediate need to increase the discharge. This water is expected to reach Nanded by 8 P.M. tonight. The Yeldari Dam is discharging 29,400 cusecs, which is fully manageable.
“The floodwaters in the Manjara and Terna rivers have receded, and the situation in Western Maharashtra is currently stable. Ujjani is discharging 75,000 cusecs, while Sina Kolegaon is at 80,000 cusecs.”
“Due to the discharge from Jayakwadi, approximately 10,000 people from various villages in Jalna district have been relocated to safety, with 6,870 citizens being accommodated in district council schools and community temples. These individuals come from Partur, Ambad, and Ghanasawangi. They are being provided food and necessary facilities, with arrangements made at 23 locations. Farmers' livestock has also been moved to safety, with fodder supplied,” he added.
He continued, “In Nashik, discharge from the Gangapur Dam is 11,000 cusecs, and 10,000 cusecs is being released from Mula Dam. Rainfall has now diminished. The discharge from Jayakwadi into Nashik and Ahmednagar has been controlled from 87,000 to 68,000 cusecs. In Jalgaon district, discharge is at 54,500 cusecs from Girna Dam and 65,800 cusecs from Hatnur Dam. All rivers in the Konkan region are below warning levels.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for North Konkan and the Ghat section. Government sources have indicated a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms in Madhya Maharashtra.
Due to a low-pressure area, the state is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to crop destruction. An orange alert has been issued in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Raigad, and Pune, while a yellow alert is in place for Dhule, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nandurbar. The administration is assessing damages to crops and property.
“Heavy rains have hit Jafrabad taluka, severely affecting farmers' kharif crops and sugarcane. Approximately 90 acres of sugarcane belonging to 12 to 13 farmers in Devlegavhan have been damaged. Farmers are increasingly concerned due to fluctuating rainfall. Areas including Devlegavhan, Gadegavhan, Butkheda, and Longaon received heavy rain on Sunday evening and midnight,” sources reported.
According to reports, crops have been ruined, leading to significant financial losses. Sugarcane crops spanning about 80 acres in Devlegavan have suffered, resulting in substantial losses. It is anticipated that heavy rains may return next week, particularly on October 6, 7, and 8, attributed to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
