Patna, Aug 9 (NationPress) On the special day of Raksha Bandhan alongside Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Saturday, tied a protective thread around a tree and planted a sapling at Rajdhani Vatika in Patna.
Extending his greetings to the people of Bihar and the nation, CM Nitish characterized Raksha Bandhan as a celebration of love and connection between siblings.
He noted that Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas, initiated on August 13, 2012, is aimed at enhancing awareness regarding environmental preservation, promoting extensive tree planting, and safeguarding nature to tackle climate change.
The Chief Minister highlighted that initiatives under Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali and eco-tourism programs are elevating public awareness about conservation of the environment and wildlife.
Present at this occasion were Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Sunil Kumar, Nitish Kumar's son Nishant Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department Harjot Kaur, Special Officer to the Chief Minister Gopal Singh, Commissioner of Patna Division Chandrashekhar Singh, District Magistrate of Patna Dr. Tyagarajan S.M., Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Prabhat Kumar Gupta, along with other senior officials and dignitaries.
In a parallel celebration, former Chief Minister and senior RJD leader Rabri Devi maintained her Raksha Bandhan tradition by tying a Rakhi to her adopted brother and party Legislative Council member Sunil Kumar Singh.
She visited his house for the ritual, wishing him a long and prosperous life, as is her yearly custom.
Singh, who serves as the party's state treasurer and is a former Biscoman chairman, is recognized as a trusted ally of the Lalu-Rabri family.
This act also highlighted Rabri's ongoing estrangement from her biological brothers, Sadhu Yadav and Subhash Yadav, with whom relations soured after her and Lalu Prasad's time in power.
Political analysts suggest that the annual ceremony with Singh illustrates how strong connections can develop outside of family ties, while blood relations may diminish over time.
