Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 2 (NationPress) - Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging a thorough investigation into the reported assault on Malayali students at Zakir Husain Delhi College in the capital.
On September 24, 2025, two students, I.D. Ashwanth and K. Sudhin, allegedly suffered physical aggression from certain police officials.
In his letter, the Chief Minister expressed profound concern over the event, advocating for strict measures against any police personnel found guilty of misconduct.
Reports indicate that the students were allegedly coerced into speaking in Hindi, showcasing a troubling instance of harassment that could adversely affect students who migrate between states for higher education.
"Students from various states come to India for academic opportunities. Their language, culture, and identity deserve respect from the local communities," CM Vijayan stated, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies have a responsibility to protect citizens from such antisocial actions.
"If police personnel partake in such behaviors, it could empower other offenders to target students and residents who move for education or work," he added.
The Chief Minister's correspondence called for an "impartial and comprehensive inquiry" into the situation, stressing the need for "fairness and accountability".
This appeal highlights growing concerns regarding the treatment of out-of-state students and the obligations of law enforcement to safeguard their rights.
The alleged incident has triggered widespread outrage, especially within the Malayali student community in Delhi.
Authorities have been urged to ensure that the investigation is transparent and that appropriate disciplinary or legal actions are taken against those responsible.
This action by the Kerala government underscores a greater emphasis on the protection of students' rights and cultural identity, underscoring the necessity for inter-state respect and sensitivity, particularly in educational settings.
Over the years, an increasing number of students from Kerala have been pursuing higher education in Delhi.
