Los Angeles, April 10 (NationPress) The father of Hollywood actor Colin Farrell, former footballer Eamon Farrell, has sadly passed away at the age of 83. His passing follows a prolonged battle with illness.

A death notice confirming his passing stated that the former player for Shamrock Rovers "passed away peacefully, after a long illness bravely endured, in the loving care of his family and the exceptional staff of the Whitworth Ward. He was the cherished husband of Eileen, a devoted father to Eamon, Catherine, Claudine, and Colin, and a beloved brother to the late Tommy, Maureen, and Sean," as reported by ‘Mirror.co.uk’.

The notice continued, "He will be profoundly missed by Rita, step-children William, Keith, Sandra, Aidan, Deborah, Karl, Ciarán, and Gary, grandchildren James, Ellen, Henry, Stella, and Oscar, in-laws and partners, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends.

According to ‘Mirror.co.uk’, the star of ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, Colin, had previously shared insights about his life with his father.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Colin noted, "I was the youngest, which allowed me to get away with more. My parents were less vigilant with me, and I believe my older brother faced the brunt of their scrutiny while my sisters experienced it to a lesser extent. They would say I had the easiest time, but I attribute it to my parents' exhaustion rather than favoritism."

He also reminisced about his father's football career during the 1960s before venturing into other businesses. Colin stated, "Dad played football until he was 26 or 27. After that, he owned a fish-and-chip shop near a golf course, The Little Chip Inn. Honestly, he never let us forget that witty name. Then he ran a restaurant and later a health-food store in Dublin called Down To Earth."

During his acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February, Colin acknowledged his family. He won the award for Best Male Actor for his role in ‘The Penguin’ and expressed gratitude on stage, saying, "Thanks to my mum, Rita, my dad, Eamon, and the two individuals who have made my life incredibly special and meaningful, my sons James and Henry."

The Shamrock Rovers official Instagram account was among those honoring Eamon after the heartbreaking news. They shared a black-and-white photograph of him in their kit with the caption: "The death has occurred of former Rovers player Eamon Farrell. Eamon joined Rovers in 1960 at the age of 18 from the renowned schoolboy nursery club Home Farm."

"A half-back who was a minor and schoolboy international for Ireland, Eamon played alongside his older brother Tommy,” they added.
