North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha, along with Cooch Behar District Magistrate Raju Mishra and Superintendent of Police Sandeep Karra, visited the bereaved families to share the news. The state administration has expressed its condolences and support to those who are grieving.
The incident, which has already reached the attention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, occurred at a stone crushing facility in the Gadkura area of Dinhata Village II Gram Panchayat. On Sunday, after concluding their work, the workers were moving a welding machine when it accidentally contacted an 11,000-volt high-tension wire overhead, resulting in immediate electrocution of the five individuals.
The victims have been identified as Mukul Barman from Baisguri, Raju Sen from Okrabari, Mithun Pal from Burirhat, Suman Barman from the Boys Club vicinity in Dinhata city, and Sanjay Barman from the Shingijani area of Bhetaguri.
Additionally, three other workers sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalized at Dinhata Subdivision Hospital, with their condition reported as critical, according to police sources.
