Kolkata, Feb 19 (NationPress) A formal complaint has been submitted to West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, requesting his intervention regarding a statement made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is accused of issuing a threat to Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state.
Kaustav Bagchi, a leader of the BJP and a lawyer at the Calcutta High Court, filed this complaint with the Governor's office, referencing a segment of the Chief Minister's speech during her address in the Assembly on Tuesday.
During her speech, Banerjee remarked, “You are engaging in extensive slandering against a specific community. If they were to initiate a movement someday, would you be able to manage that?”
Bagchi shared a video clip of this statement on his social media, questioning, “Is the Chief Minister threatening the Leader of the Opposition on behalf of extremists?”
Following this, he sent a communication to the Governor's office, requesting intervention in the issue.
On the same day, the Leader of the Opposition responded with sharp criticisms directed at the Chief Minister for her remarks.
“She asked what would happen if a particular community united against me? I will escalate this threat to the Union Home Ministry, supported by video evidence of the Chief Minister's comments made in the House. I am under security due to an order from the Calcutta High Court. I will also approach the Calcutta High Court to seek a restraining order against the Chief Minister's provocative statements,” Adhikari informed the media on Tuesday afternoon.
The LoP, along with three other BJP members, was suspended from the House for a month due to alleged disorderly conduct on Monday. Adhikari contended that this suspension was a result of political bias since such actions were never taken when the chair was occupied by members of the Left Front or Congress.
