Kolkata, Feb 18 (NationPress) The West Bengal Assembly is poised for a dramatic showdown on Tuesday during the latter part of the ongoing budget session, featuring simultaneous speeches by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inside the House and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari outside.
According to the agenda, the Chief Minister is anticipated to arrive at the Assembly around 1:30 p.m. to present her remarks regarding the motion of thanks for the February 10 address by Governor C.V. Ananda Bose. There is a likelihood that the Assembly authorities will provide a live broadcast of the Chief Minister’s speech.
At precisely the same time, the LoP, who faced a month-long suspension from the House on Monday, will articulate his speech concerning the Governor’s address from outside the Assembly. He has declared that his address will also be broadcast live on his social media platforms. In addition to his personal account, his speech will be streamed on a specially created social media account named 'BJP legislature party'.
Simultaneously, BJP members will be boycotting the House during the Chief Minister’s address in the latter half of the session.
The LoP has already proclaimed that his audience will surpass that of the Chief Minister. On Monday, alongside the LoP, three other BJP legislators—fashion designer-turned-politician Agnimitra Paul, Bankim Ghosh, and Biswanath Karak—were also suspended for a month.
The four BJP legislators faced suspension after they protested against the non-admission of an adjournment motion brought by Paul regarding assaults on various Hindu religious celebrations in the state, particularly during the Saraswati Puja earlier this month, despite Paul being permitted to read it on the House floor.
The Speaker, Biman Bandopadhyay, informed the media that the four BJP legislators were suspended due to their inappropriate conduct on the House floor, which included tearing up Assembly documents and throwing the fragments toward the Speaker’s chair.
